Directions for use
Longcat is a grid puzzle by Fancade. You steer a cat whose body grows behind it, and the aim of every level is easy to state: the body has to cover each empty cell on the board. Poki files the game under arcade games and lists it with puzzle, snake and animal games as well; here it sits with puzzles, because a level is a route to work out rather than a test of reflexes. The idea comes from snake games, with the difference that nothing moves unless you move it.
The part that takes getting used to is how a move works. Choose a direction and the cat does not take a single step. It keeps stretching that way until it reaches an obstacle: a wall, the edge of the board or its own body. Every move therefore commits a whole line of cells at once. If the tail meets the head before the space is filled, the level is lost. When that happens, or when you can see that a pocket of cells is now out of reach, you restart the level and try the moves in a different order.
On a keyboard the cat is steered with W A S D or the arrow keys. On a phone or tablet, and with a mouse, you press and drag in the direction you want. Because a move cannot be stopped halfway, most of the work happens before you press anything: look at where each stretch will end, count the cells it leaves behind, and only then commit. Longcat was released in March 2024 and was last updated on Poki in September 2026.

For a cleaner finish
- Look for cells with only one open neighbour. A cell like that can only be the last one the cat reaches, so the route has to finish there.
- Before choosing a direction, check where the cat will come to rest, not just which cell comes next. The stretch runs all the way to the next obstacle.
- Long corridors one cell wide are filled by a single move. The open patches are where the order of moves decides the level, so think about those first.
- If the body has sealed off a group of empty cells, restart straight away. The level cannot be finished from there, and trying more moves only costs time.
Works well for
People who like to work out a route before moving, and anyone who enjoys a puzzle that can be picked up for one level and put down again.
Drawbacks, in small print
- Poki is ad-supported, so an ad may appear before the game starts or between sessions.
- Mistakes are final: one wrong stretch can make a level impossible, and the only way back is a restart.
- Every level runs on the same stretching rule. If that rule does not click in the first few boards, the rest of the 1,900+ will feel the same.
